Covering Kids & Families of Health & Hospital Corporation is hosting its 23rd annual Back to School and Community Resource Day on Saturday, June 24 from 8:30 a.m.-Noon outside the Marion County Public Health Department’s main location at 3838 N. Rural Street.
This popular event features a variety of free community resources and public health services to help families get their kids ready for the upcoming school year, including a free backpack with school supplies for each child who attends.
Back-to-school health services include free immunizations, health screenings and sports physicals. Parents or guardians should bring current shot records as well as an insurance card or Medicaid card for any children seeking immunizations. Birth certificates for children are also available in the Vital Records office for a small fee and with proper identification.
The Indianapolis Fire Department returns with its Fire Safety Festival featuring games, food and hands-on educational activities. Community organizations and health department programs will host booths with information about resources and services.
Plus, Gleaners joins the event as a sponsor this year with a food giveaway focused on healthy snacks for kids.
Residents who need health insurance can get enrolled on-site for Hoosier Healthwise, Eskenazi Financial Assistance Program, Healthy Indiana Plan, or plans available through the Affordable Care Act Marketplace. To enroll, the following documents are needed: income stubs from the previous three months, Social Security number, and proof of address in Marion County.
