Cardboard Challenge and the Growth Mindset

Wednesday, March 8, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

  • « Redirection in Infant and Toddler Classrooms
  • Self-Regulation: Helping Children With HIgh Energy and Low Focus »

Cardboard is everywhere! Come learn with us how to use it to encourage a growth mindset. We know that teacher practice has a big impact on student mindset. The feedback that teachers give their students can either encourage a child to choose a challenge and increase achievement or look for an easy way out. Challenges to build and explore with cardboard are beautiful ways to give teachers opportunities to practice growth mindset questioning and feedback and to give students opportunities to build skills like taking risks, asking questions, and seeing mistakes as learning opportunities. In this build and learn workshop, we’ll explore and practice a few safe cardboard cutting techniques and seven cardboard attachment techniques that are appropriate for all ages, preschool through adult. Participants will leave with a cardboard attachment “menu” that they’ve built themselves and with a collection of growth mindset questions they may use in their own teaching practices. All materials are provided. Christopher Nunn, Education Coordinator for Southeast Community Services and Teaching Artist at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, is presenting this workshop.
