Falling in Love with Books

Saturday, October 21, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

  • « Music Fun the Pre-K Way
  • Safe Sleeping Practices and Reducing the Risk of SIDS in Child Care »

Reading aloud with children is known to be the single most important activity for building the knowledge and skills they will eventually require for learning to read” (Marilyn Adams, Beginning to Read.) Read-alouds matter. We know this not just from research but also from paying attention to the profound impact reading can have on children’s language development, including vocabulary, spelling and grammar; their imaginations and views of world; and their capacity for problem-solving (Krashen, 2015). The sooner we provide opportunities for children to engage in meaningful reading – the better. In this session, teachers will come to understand the importance of thinking and talking about books everyday!
