Transition out of First Steps

Thursday, July 14, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

  • « Orientación 2 para abrirse un centro Infantil en Casa
  • Tots & Touch Screens! Making Sense of Technology »

first stepsYour child’s third birthday is quickly approaching, and you have been told that your family will be doing some planning soon because the early intervention program ends at age three. This means your child may be moving from an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) to an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Join us as we host Lesa Paddack, the assistant director and parent liaison to the Indiana Department of Education at IN*Source, for a review all the necessary steps during this transition. We will explain the shift from a family-focus approach to a child-focus approach. We will also review the responsibilities of the parent. We will introduce you to state and federal terms along with providing you resources. It is important to prepare your child and your family ahead of time. After all, transition planning can bring great rewards for you, your child, and the professionals that work with your family. You will learn about the transition process from First Steps and into special education through your local school district.
