THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. Please check our website for future sessions.

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone needed to regulate blood sugar. This stop in production occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Taria Butler is a mom of a type 1 child, a licensed school counselor and an advocate for children and families with type 1. She will further define what type 1 diabetes is, the warning signs to look for and how to recognize hyper and hypoglycemia. Taria will also discuss the daily needs of a type 1 child and how to care for a type 1 child in a childcare setting. Attendees will learn the importance of carb counting, blood sugar readings and the many things that can affect blood sugar levels.
