Last Day Q&A: Grace Sededji

Child Care Answers
April 30, 2022

Our newest team member, child care resource and referral specialist Grace Sededji, has been a wonderful addition to the team in her support of families and child care programs. Learn more about her below!

What three traits define you?

Simple, caring, persistent

What is your personal philosophy?

Keep life simple, and take it one day at a time.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?

My family – my husband, son, parents, and siblings are my everything. I don’t know where I would be without their love and support – I love them so much.

What is the greatest challenge you have had to overcome in your life thus far?

Learning to allow my faith to be bigger than any situation I face in life. When I was pregnant with my son, we were told that he would not walk, talk, or be able to breathe on his own, and he would have major delays in all aspects of his life. After he was born, his neurologist ordered a brain MRI, and the result from the MRI contradicted all the diagnoses we received and all the assumptions that were made. My son took his first steps when he was 11 months old, and he is the most talkative toddler I know. He sings a lot too. He would walk around playing while singing from the top of his lungs all day long. He is our walking miracle!

What is the one thing you cannot resist?

African food. If I go a day without eating anything African, it feels like I have gone days without food. My favorite is Suya.

What is your greatest fear?

Heights – but oddly enough, I don’t mind flying in airplanes!

Where is your favorite place to be?

Home, on my couch, with my family

What is your favorite thing to do?

Eating and resting when I can

Where is the best place you’ve traveled and why?

The best place I have been/lived is back home, Togo. I feel that there is something special about the land in which we are born. So, Togo is always near to my heart no matter where I find myself living!

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?

Working at the bookstore when I was in college. I did not enjoy it very much, probably because I was surrounded by so many books, and I am not a big reader.

Which one would you want most – flying cars, robot housekeepers, or moon cities?

Robot housekeepers! Basically, any robot that can clean my home, do the laundry and cook will be so nice.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

Growing up, I have always wanted to be a pediatrician. Sometimes I wonder to myself why I never went to medical school.

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?

Be yourself and don’t think twice about what others may think of you.

What are your three words or phrases you overuse the most?

Umm, please, thank you

What is the best book you have ever read?

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Tell us something that might surprise us about you.

I went to a John Legend concert when I was in college! His voice in person is just as nice as it is on television.
